A song with a person’s name in the title

Day 21. We are almost halfway through the 30-Day Music Challenge. The music gods gave us unlimited choices today. There are almost as many songs with a person’s name in the title as there are people with names.  Don’t Google it. Just go with it.

I have a few favorite songs with a person’s name in the title and those favorites stretch across a few different genres. I decided to veer a little from the instructions by picking a song that isn’t necessarily a favorite.  In fact, I try to stay away from this song, as it is so heavy.

The first time I heard “Stan” by Eminem, I was floored. I sat almost comatose for about 15 minutes trying to figure out what I just heard. At that time, I listened on repeat because I was o intrigued by how Em crafted something so graphic on record. His words created something visually disturbing. Only, at that time, I wasn’t wise enough to understand how energy carries. So I fed it to myself—over and over again.

This was an artist known for making crazy, outlandish statements, but I always laughed at what we all know as “crazy, white boy shit.” I liked his music and I believed him to be an awesome rapper, but I don’t think I took him seriously. Although I probably wouldn’t describe it this way back then, “Stan” was probably the first time I saw Eminem as an artist. I still assert that the song is too heavy for me these days. I usually listen to the song I chose as I write, right now I’m listening to “The Story of OJ” — anther great pick for Day 21.

What are you rocking with today? Comment or share and let me know. Tomorrow, we are back at it with Day 20—a song that reminds you of your mom.
