A song by a band or group you wish was still together

Let me start by telling you something that you probably already know: The 90s was rich with bands and groups. When deciding on my selection for Day 24- A song by a band or group you wish was still together—it was tough to determine which groups actually broke up, and which groups simply aren’t recording anymore.

If streaming was a determinant in those days, one album would have been certified diamond based on the number of spins it got in my mother’s house alone.  That woman played Brownstone’s From The Bottom Up like it was the only thing she owned. I passed down the wisdom of this vocal masterpiece when I proudly shared “If You Love Me” with my little sister (born in ’93), and informed her that it was sampled heavily on Tory Lanez's “Say It.” I don’t think she was impressed.

Today’s pick is another cut from that album. While any track I would have chosen could have shown off their amazing voices, “Grapevyne” undeniably displays Brownstone’s collective talent.

It also makes me a little sad that the group members couldn’t work out their differences. Brownstone was unique in that they always sounded like a group, not a bunch of individuals competing for recognition. Their harmony was that of iconic male groups like Boyz II Men and Jodeci.

So, youngin’s, make sure you all check out “Grapevyne” and the entire From The Bottom Up album. Also, let me know your pick for Day 24.

Tomorrow we’ll pick back up with a song you think everyone should listen to.
