A song by an artist no longer living

I just finished reading Original Gangstas: The Untold Story of Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Tupac Shakur, and the Birth of West Coast Rap, by Ben Westhoff. Filled with interesting stories about the pioneers of west coast hip-hop, the book served as my nightly entertainment for almost two months.

Westhoff’s storytelling created a huge FBI-like map with little red strings connecting everyone involved in the west side connection (not to be confused with the group). It wasn’t until today that I realized that one of the artists’ accolades only amounted to a few pages in this book. Hopefully today’s post makes up for one of the most underrated members of the powerful west coast regimes of the 90s.

We celebrate Day 25 of the 30-Day Music Challenge—a song by an artist no longer living—with Warren G’s “Regulate” featuring the late Nate Dogg. To Westhoff’s credit, he did give some great insight into how this song was produced. I’ll tell you that I adore story raps, so this track has always been one of my favorites. Nate’s voice is infection, Warren is always cool, and there are few things in this world better than G-funk.

But, that’s my opinion. What are you rolling with for Day 25? I also have a special treat for anyone that can guess my pick for Day 26—a song by a band or group you wish were still together. Comment and let me know your guess. You might win a little something-something.
